Huntings Caye
Today we started off with an early morning, we had to have an early start to the day so we could get to the Caye mid morning to have all day there.
We began with breakfast at Grace's like usual while in Punta Gorda, with service like usual, we then headed to the wharf. I have been looking forward to the night at Huntings Caye since recieving out itenerary months ago. We met up with Lionel aka Yogi our boat driver for the next two days and he was everything his brother Asha (our chef from the previous night at Asha's Kitchen/ Youngest Business Man of Belize award winner) made him out to be.
When we left the wharf the weather was ok (it has been raining on and off the past few days) but then it hit, and it hit hard. I figured it would clear up by the time we hit the Caye, but I was wrong. It pissed down rain for the majority of the morning (which was very, very disappointing). Believe it or not there were a couple plus sides to the rain: 1. The rangers were in dire need of the rain, since all their water tanks were totally dried up and, 2. the rain did not take away from the beauty of the island whatsoever.
The rain started to die down allowing the group to go snorkeling (minus me, due to a foot injury happening a few days earlier... oops) but Wilfred (our TIDE Tour Guide) and I followed the group on foot and when they returned it was as if I had been with them the entire time. They explained in fine detail about what they had seen: a school of flying fish, a lion fish, an eagle ray, a stingray, a squid, a massive starfish, lobsters and many other sorts of sealife.
After a typical lunch of rice and beans I decided to let the rain put me to sleep for a little nap where I dreamt of sunshine and dreams do come true... I woke up to an evening full of beautiful, warm sunshine allowing me to take a last minute dip in the ocean before Lauren witnesed our supper being chased, caught, slaughtered and thrown right on the grill. Goes to show how fresh the food is here and you sure wouldn't see that at home.
All in all, it was as beautiful as I had expected (even with the rain), relaxing and the people on the island couldn't have made us feel anymore at home.
Can't wait for tomorrow's adventures...
